Hi, I live in Fairbanks Alaska. My family moved here from Coos Bay Oregon in 1984 when my Father Bill Folsom transferred with IBM. My Husband Tom, and our three kids, keep life interesting and fun! They are used to my constant nature to be moving, creating, improving and improvising.
My Mom and I share our Glass Studio. She is often creating fused glass gnomes, plant stakes and pressed flowers, as I create and
experiment with kiln firing recycled window glass. We are often competing for kiln space.
My parents and I have been working with glass in some form, for over 25 years.
I can remember my Dad learning stained glass and my Mom melting wine bottles when I was young. I took to fusing glass because I love the changes in viscosity created when glass is heated and cooled. There is so much to learn, so many trials and errors along the way and I am just beginning.
My parents have always been creative people. Long time Alaskans might remember a printing business my Mom owned for 25 years called Polar Run Printing now part of Top Class Printing. My Dad passed away in 2019 he had many skills, and was definitely a jack of all trades. He spent his last years mastering lampworking (torch fired beads).
It must be in my DNA to create, that’s where I thrive. I am thoroughly loving learning how to create art with recycled window glass. It is a medium with it’s own characteristics different than a more common fusible art glass.
I love anything relating to the ocean, animals and the outdoors. Often my pieces will include one of these elements.
I love teaching, creating purposeful pieces, and bring character into a space.
My current goal is to make this medium more accessible for all ages.
Throughout all life twists and turns I always come Back to Glass.
